It makes sense to have a few distribution points for police, EMS and firefighters so that they can quickly respond to emergencies.

Does each station need a chief? Why not have one chief for the Parish, one administrative office, and distribute calls to individual stations for a response?

St. Tammany Parish has 13 fire districts, and the Covington Fire Department, and each one has a chief. I wonder how much salary/benefits each chief draws.

You’re talking fire districts. Not stations. Don’t know the total number of stations, but it is far more than that.

And to your question about what is required...state law requires you have a district chief per every 4 stations, an assistant chief over multiple districts, a deputy chief over assistant chiefs, and a fire chief over the department. That’s what the law states. Don’t like that? Contact your senator or representative and tell them to change the law because you don’t see the need for supervision or structure.

My dad retired as a chief, he still had a part time job.
The title doesn't mean a huge salary.
