By people who know what they're talking about they do. But they also get a lot of disrespect and made the butt of jokes.

Ed King was amazing in his own right, but I just think Collins and Gaines were on another level. The Steve Gaines lineup was by far my favorite because Steve Gaines. Even Ronnie knew how great he was and said he'd outshine the whole band one day.
If I ever met the devil at the crossroads, give me Steve Gaines musical ability in return for my soul.

As for Gary, great player but I lost respect for him by the way he carries on under the name disrespecting their memory. There is no Skynyrd without Ronnie, I don't care if you do have his baby brother. Its a poor mans knock off.
Artimus Pyle has the self respect not to go for that money grab.

Agree but SG was a level or 2 above AC and I'm a giant AC fan

You're drunk or just uninformed....AP isn't in the band for a reason and it's not that he didn't want to go; he wasn't invited for a reason.

I don't care for JVZ's vocals fronting LS, never have. IMO Dale Krantz was the perfect replacement for Ronnie; love her vocals.

Meh - for a long stretch of time, the reformed band had Gary, Ricky Medlocke and Hughie Thomason (RIP) on guitar. That's about as "super group" you can get - it's not like they went out and got scrubs to replace Gaines and Collins. Of course, Collins' health didn't allow him to play much longer than he did, anyway.

As it is, the band continuing almost certainly kept Gary and Billy (RIP) alive a lot longer than they would have otherwise, IMHO. By all reports, this post-crash version of LS was one hell of a live band.
