we'll agree to disagree. The Brothers of the Sacred Heart at my high school and nuns at my elementary school had no trouble embarrassing the shite out of you. It worked wonders at ensuring you didn't do the same stupid thing twice.
tear down tactics seem to work well in sports and other endeavors too. So I think it can be done without permanent psychological damage to the recipient.
