I don’t get squeamish and don’t see any way I’ll retire before 65 considering my life’s path thus far.

You’re only 33. Meh. You have plenty time. Now if you were 53 I’d be deeply concerned. You would need to be very aggressive with a strong sense of urgency putting money Away and also using the 50 and over catch up contributions. Get on a plan now and you’ll be ok.
