I have been to America 3 times including New Orleans for 4 nights last year. It is the only place in the south I have been and I have never been to the West Coast which is why I was focussing on these areas.
I have never had a problem before getting around Cities in the USA before using public transport, although the cities I have been to tend to be the best ones for public transport(NYC, Boston, DC, Chicago and New Orleans).
There is more pressure on Americans to learn to drive, I am guessing because of the size of the place. Not everyone learns to drive over here as soon as they can. I know loads of people who can’t and have never even tried.
Of course price plays a small part but not to the point where I would want to stay in a hostel. I wouldn’t bother going if finances were that tight.
Music and Sport are the two things I enjoy most so they play a part in my decisions on where to visit.
Thanks for your post.

Troll or not, this thread has been entertaining, especially for the usual cordiality that occurs on the travel board.
Seriously, out of all boards on here you'd be most hard-pressed to piss off travel board regulars, yet you've succeeded. Bravo![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

It is not uncommon for NY city residents to not know how to drive, at least that's what I hear. Other than that just about everyone drives.
Most cities, even smaller ones w/ < 100,000 people, have bus systems. Dallas and Houston have light rail systems, per Google. Not sure about other southern cities. Well Atlanta does but don't think you were considering there.
Between those systems, uber, lyft, and taxis maybe you can get to where you want to go.
You have time to do more research and make a good plan.
If you do get to an LSU game, especially bama, and the Tigers win, it will be an unbelievable experience.
