Only issue my wife had with the Shield was the slide. Hard for her to rack it and slide release was a b!tech.
Switched her to a P238 for now and all good.

She should practice proper overhand racking on larger handguns first and then mastering the motion with smaller guns too.
But the P238 isn’t a terrible idea. The combination of the hammer spring and recoil spring makes it easier to rack. But be aware she must become instinctual in using the manual safety and she needs to carry cocked and locked.
