Maybe he's saying LSU wasn't the best place because he had to deal with some extremely shitty people in the locker room actively trying to prevent him from succeeding.
So much this. A lot of people don't remember that there was a divided locker room during his tenure. The wideouts wanted Rohan Davey. The o-line wanted Booty. It caused the team to essentially implode over Dinardo. After Booty left, Saban was able to unite the team behind Rohan and win a Sugar Bowl.

There may have been a divide. The rumors were there. But there were also rumors that the cause of the divide was Booty himself.
