Is this stuff worth the money? My wife is adamant that we pay for this so we can sit outside and not get eaten up by mosquitos. She got a quote for $109/month, but seems like I can just get the chemicals myself and spray the yard for much cheaper than that. Seems awfully expensive to me. I just wanted to hear what you guys thought about this type of service.

You can get the stuff and spray yourself, but we joined in with a neighborhood group and get a discounted rate. They come and spray every three weeks and it is like $40 a spray with our discount. It would be $60 without the discount. I do enough work in the yard in the summer as it is, and these guys will come out and do a respray for free if it needs it. I've been doing it for 3-4 years now, and have young kids so it is great. I don't have to worry about them getting eat up and they can actually enjoy the backyard.

Why is my wife being quoted so much more at $109/month?? How many of y'all had to go in together to get the discounted rate?

Bifen it/ talstar is your answer. I spent $25 last summer on a bottle and $20 on a hand pump. Sprayed my yard and the surrounding neighbors (they agreed and we're appreciative). I have enough left over to spray again this summer. Takes me less than an hour to do all 5 yards.

A friend of mine bought the backpack leafblower with spray attachment, but the hand pump works just as well for me.

I’m in Birmingham. Different company. One guy in our neighborhood called around to three different companies asking about discounts and we chose the best one. It is a few dollars more than the cheapest one but includes fleas and ticks too. Many have pets so I just went along with it. We had to have 10 houses. They probably cover the 15-20 we have signed up in a morning.

I agree with this. It's about $45, but that will last you a while. I mix heavy 1 oz./ gallon and it works like a charm. You want to get flower beds(mulch), play areas, and lawn soaking wet. I do a spring treatment and a summer treatment and no issues. If you have pets, allow for 6 hours of dry time.

Do I just mix it in a standard 1 gallon garden/chemical spray bottle or is there something better that I can use?

That's what I use. Takes 3 or 4 fills to get all the bushes and perimeter of the house. Just did it last week.

If you have a big yard, it may be worth it to get a larger capacity backpack sprayer.

Yep, a one gallon sprayer will be just fine. A back pack sprayer would be quicker, but yea, a one gallon will work. Just make sure to saturate under hedges, flower beds, areas that typically hold water, etc. Also, spray all around the exterior of the house. DON'T USE INSIDE though.

TalStar states it can be used indoors or out and I have done that. Is there a reason you don't use it inside? Not doubting, just don't want to use it indoors if you've had issues.

Unless you use a low pressure sprayer or willing to wipe everything down after application, I don't fee comfortable suggesting indoor use. Not just Telstar, any poison, because of atomization or overspray, makes me nervous indoors. Especially with kids or pets.

Besides, if you spray well enough outside, you can bet you're not going to get much, if anything, inside.

When spraying the house, do you just spray the base of the house or can you use it on windows and sills? I have back windows that that mosquitoes, nats, and other bugs love to collect on.

Spray everywhere outside. Eventually enough rain will wash it all away, but if you can kill them, and keep any standing water out of your property, they can't lay eggs. Our guys use a backpack sprayer to get shrubs and tree limbs, and a typical garden sprayer to hit the edge of the house, deck, and grass.

Yep, saturate the entire house if you want. Mostly, it’s vegetation or where water holds, like under a raised house.

We just bought some outside furniture and my wife planted some Lavender around it. Till this point we have no problems with the bloodsuckers carrying us away. Ofcourse there are other plants said to have the same effect on those little bastards, id check into that before paying a monthly spray fee.
