There is no background investigation. They check them for felony convictions and warrants. That’s it. $11.42 an hour starting pay doesn’t get you much to choose from. It’s a 50 mile one way commute from Baton Rouge to work there.

This was probably just survival sex on the inmates part. They were abused by these powerful female correctial officers. This is not OK.

To the tune of $40k. Its looked at the same way a teacher having sex with a student is. These employees were in a position of authority over the inmates and took advantage of it. ( for those with sexual type charges).
Part of PREA ( Prison Rape Elimination Act) inmates who are victims of sexual assaults are paid by the state or fed govt. Is the way I understand it.
Think that's not incentive for an inmate to manipulate a guard into sex?

Yep. He can say he was coerced. Felt threatened by the guard in uniform. Was afraid to turn down the advances and didn't want to be punished by the guard

This is why who you surround yourself with is important. While I fight for prison reform, my bias surrounding inmates and male sexual assault still exists. I needed to be reminded as I read this that INMATES CANNOT CONSENT! Male prisoners, same as female prisoners, are NOT the abusers in this situation, they are not manipulating and whatever else their way into this (if manipulation is involved it is SURVIVAL SEX). This is why narratives MATTER. Our inherent biases and societal indoctrinations are there and we need to ACTIVELY combat them. These women RAPED these men. It was not just “inappropriate behavior”.

Some guy who works within the prison system is trying to explain to her that the prisoners manipulate the female guards to use them for stuff. She ain't having any of that talk.

The place has been there for 50 fricking years. If it's not having a real economic impact on NBR now, then it never will. People go to the zoo then leave because they're scared of the zoo around the zoo.
