L Boogie made good recommendations. I second Valentina’s. The wait isn’t too bad and it’s some of the best bbq in a town full of amazing bbq places.
Also try:
Curras for interior Mexican.
Easy Tiger if you are on 6th and want a chill place that has good beer and food.
Draught House pub is a cool neighborhood pub if you want to hang with locals. Lots of beers on tap and they brew their own.
Torchy’s or Tacodeli for good tacos. If you go to torchys, you must get the queso.
Lambert’s - upscale bbq downtown. They also have live music upstairs most nights.
ABGB and Pinthouse both have great pizza. I give ABGB an edge on pizza but Pinthouse has better beer. ABGB is a more interesting place and it has live music acts often. Parking sucks there.
Peche (not related to NOLA Peche) does a really good Old Fashioned. This is more of a fine dining place, but you can just go their for drinks. They have a lot of good cocktails.
Elephant Room is an awesome underground Jazz bar with good beer selection. No cover on weekdays usually and small cover on weekends ($5-10).
Texas Chili Parlor is a very old dive near the capital. Very good chili if you are in the mood and its not too hot.
Ramen Tatsu-Ya - I've heard good things about this place but haven't been.
Uchi - This place is on S. Lamar. Don't bother getting sushi here, as there are better places to get this in Austin. But their small plates are awesome. Get the brussel sprouts side if they have them.
Takoba - Modern Mexican - very good. Their Al Pastor torta is awesome.
Buenos Aires - Argentinian food
