I think I see the common thread here. Everyone that is very against this concept appears to be in the construction industry. Which, having worked in it at a time myself, is probably the most inflexible industry when it comes to stuff like this. Also, explains why it has the highest divorce rate, men with multiple children from multiple women, etc. I'm sorry that the industry is that uncooperative when it comes to very important life events. Industry aside, if you could take time when a child birth comes along, I'm sure you would.

Or you are specifically not high up enough in the chain for someone to realize you are gone.

Yep. What us blue collar baws realize is that by working hard and setting a good example we raise our kids better being away from home than these desk jockeys do by being chronically underemployed and finger painting in turtlenecks with their kids
