Just watched it again for like the 5th time... What a damn good film and what an unbelievable performance by Robin Williams(RIP). The ending scene gets to me every single time I watch. They just don't make movies like this anymore which is really rather sad.

Good movie film. My favorite scene is where he has the boys lean in real close to look at the old photos and he says “Carpe Diem.”

Good to great movie.
No idea why Ebert panned it besides him thinking it was a facsimile of A Separate Peace.
It's not overly cloying. It's charming. Fun and highly rewatchable.
