This was the final step in the application process for working as a state of Louisiana employee.

A quick Google search (I’m no attorney) shows that political party preference isn’t considered a discriminatory factor in hiring in Louisiana:

State laws on employment-related discrimination

From an ethical standpoint, however, as an employer, I’d certainly refrain from asking political questions.

And you may not know, but classified (part of the civil service system) or unclassified (higher level positions, political appointments, colleges and universities)?

I can come up with a few reasons it might be asked of unclassified (but why the test?). No reason for this to be asked of classified applicants.

It's times like these I wish we had a private message system. If true as portrayed, this is huge deal.
