quote:I like you, dev. I really do. But I don't get why you keep on making these blanket, widely generalizing statements about half of American voters. Are there bad people on both sides of the aisle? Sure, but they are a fringe. I think the vast (95% and up) of people on both sides of the aisle have the same goals, they just disagree on how to get there.
Trump and the circumstances surrounding his Presidency have probably divided the country for the remainder of the older generation's life span. I count a opportunistic nationalist bringing out the very worst of what this country has to offer in high esteem. Hence the ranking.
You can choose to live in paranoia and fear that a significant portion of America wants to get you or bring down the country...I refuse to believe that, because my own personal life has shown me time and time again that most people are good hearted.
I think you need to stop watching the daily show or colbert or whatever, where they show you caricatures of southerners, midwesterners, working class people, etc. I think if you went to some of these small towns, you'd be surprised at the genuine agreements you'd have with them about what their vision for America is.
You would rightfully be upset if I generalized black inner cities as places where everyone is violent, lazy, on welfare, hopeless, "the worst of America", etc.
Those "worst of America" that you mentioned in your post...many of them, millions in fact, were solid dems before 2016, just look at some midwest areas and counties...trump was first repub to win them since the 1920s.
quote:This country has been divided looooonnng before trump. And don't sit there and say he caused it....both sides are equally complicit in the division, because both sides make caricatures of the other side, assume the worst of them, in order to feel good and safe about their own beliefs system.
rump and the circumstances surrounding his Presidency have probably divided the country for the remainder of the older generation's life span.
I see absolutely NO EFFORT by you to seek to heal the division. Instead you make vague generalizations about trump voters being the "worst of what we have to offer". Despicable.

Amen brother, you are a great American and maybe one day Michigan will win another NCAA men’s basketball championship after all this time

But I don't get why you keep on making these blanket, widely generalizing statements about half of American voters.
quote:Umm...This is stated on this board every couple days to raucous upvotes and applause. And my side gets banned if we point it out. Hell I might get banned for pointing THAT out.
You would rightfully be upset if I generalized black inner cities as places where everyone is violent, lazy, on welfare, hopeless, "the worst of America", etc.
quote:Initiated? No. Exacerbated it/Brought it to a head? Hell yes. We have a POTUS trolling the internet playing down to the weakest among us. Blaming immigrants, foreigners, but never holding a certain type of person accountable.
This country has been divided looooonnng before trump. And don't sit there and say he caused it.
quote:In other words "I think there is blame on both sides,"
both sides are equally complicit in the division

Despicable.
Dude, combine your desperate attempts at absolution with Trump voters with your love of teenage death celebration threads I really don't give a frick what you find despicable.
quote:We used to be cool. That TM thread was the last straw for me though.
I like you, dev. I really do.
