I would imagine that he didn't have counsel present during his FBI interview in jan 2017, and that is where he started digging his hole.

It boggles my mind that people don't know - don't talk to the feds (or local police) without counsel present. Yes, counsel is expensive but its sorta like Uber @ 2am and DUI.

I knew that saying "I don't recall" or pleading the fif was [legally] better than lying to the FBI in January of 2017, with or without counsel. And LTG Flynn was a good bit my senior (in age, rank, and experience) last time our paths crossed, so I imagine he would have known that, too.

Something tells me playing dumb or pleading the 5th wouldn't have been the silver bullet our friend seems to think.

That's exactly what happened. He scheduled the interview without knowing what it was about and didn't ask to reschedule with counsel present. Next thing you know he's lying about sanctions conversations, op-eds, SF-86's....
