We're also looking to be in Italy in October (not a honeymoon, just a trip) and are going to be all over the map. I believe Florence, Modena, Venice, and Rome.
I've only been to Rome so looking forward to it. But this entire trip is being planned around Modena.

We went to Italy in October this past year. The weather was warm enough to swim in Positano and Capri.
OP, MSY>NYC have been high lately. I used to get $200-$350 flights, now they are $350-$500. Summer is the cheapest, spring and fall are the most expensive. I wouldn’t count on getting a cheap flight especially looking at a specific date and time.
