Because she’s very possibly only going to have to serve 20. The 20 after 45 rule is in full swing, even on violent crimes, sex crimes, and habitual offender sentences. Once you’ve served 20 years of a sentence and hit 45 years of age, no matter the number of years of the sentence, you’re eligible for a parole hearing under the changes passed last year.
I know of one offender in particular who served 21 years of a 99 year habitual offender sentence for armed robbery. He paroled out because the current parole board deemed him rehabilitated. *Armed Robbery and habitual offender sentences are both supposed to be without benefit of parole*
Within weeks, he pulled at least five armed robberies, sexually assaulted a woman, killed a 10 year old child and shot a 17 year old.
But muh only affects non-violent offenders.
