1. Had you ever heard of him before coming to LSU?

Yes.

3. How many seasons did he coach before LSU?

18 or so years of Div. 1 coaching experience. Coached at a JUCO before that for 5-6 years.

4. And those (24) seasons, how many times did he make the CWS?

He brought Notre Dame to their first and only CWS since the 50's. So... 1. He also lead them to 40+ wins every year but 1 in his 12 years there, regional appearances 9/12 years and won the Big East regular season 4 times while there.

Did you expect him to bring Air Force to the CWS? He's a great coach, but not a miracle worker.

5. And then go look at the history of LSU baseball and tell me, who made who?

I don't think anyone is under the illusion that Mainieri "made" LSU. He took a formerly great program that was in the dumps and brought it back to prominence and he's unquestionably one of the 3-5 best coaches in the game today based on any objective measure. I defy you to refute that statement.

99% of LSU fans had never heard of him. FACT.

You can look all around the country at teams that made "their first" appearance in the CWS or first in a while, and at far less prestigious places and with far less fan support and resources than Notre Dam. Just in a 10 year window, I found more than a dozen. Does that mean they should be the coach at LSU?

By your own measure, Laval won more than 40 games 4 out of 5 seasons at LSU, with 2 out of 5 of those seasons making the CWS. Depending on what 5 year period you take, the record of Smoke and PM are almost the same. For example, 2010-2014. the difference is that PM won early on, that ultimately gave him staying power when he had some down years. Saying Smoke made LSU "formerly great" when he made the CWS 2 out of 5 seasons is disingenuous.

there are easily 15-20 coaches out there that if they were at LSU could do better than PM. You guys continually underestimate the brand power LSU has in baseball. and you overvalue what PM has brought to LSU.
