Why is the government trying to ban it?

I've used Kratom capsules to ease lower back pain for years. It binds with opioid receptors like other narcotics and can be addictive hence the the reason the DEA wants to control it. Like most things moderate use and learning what your tolerance level is by taking small doses at first is key to responsible use.

What kind do you use? Can you open those to make a tea? I know zero about it but it seems interesting.

Maeng da kratom leaf powder. You can order the leaves from a lot of sources on line. I used product from The Kratom King and Kratomcountry.com and never had bad results. As far as tea Im sure its something you can makeit from the leaves from either source. You may want to call either company and inquire. You do need to be careful with consumption. It can make you sick. I took too much on much first dose and felt like I drank a gallon of coffee.

No. Kava binds with Gaba receptors and is feels more like a valium. Kratom is more of a narcotic feeling. There have been issues with people getting liver damage from improper use or preparation of KAVA. I've used Kratom capsules on and off for about 8 years and never had any issues but I'm careful with my dosage and don't use it for more than the duration of my back pain flare ups (3-5 days)
