I'm not sure you're aware, but a large majority of these top high school recruits have families that value a possible professional sports career over a college education.

And if they can't qualify or maintain eligibility in college, it'd be a no-brainer for them to go pro instead of hanging out in a JUCO.

ETA:

And as a proponent of more people going to trade schools instead of college, I don't have a problem with it. Sports could be their trade, and maybe doing that full time after high school, instead of balancing college curriculum and athletics, gives them a better chance to succeed in that sport.

But obviously, not everyone has a pro future in athletics, so this is limited.
