re: Anybody able to explain how this crash happened?

The sign is held up by a yellow concrete post barely visible above the trunk. That's why the sign didn't just fold over and the trunk collapsed.

The driver apparently was backing into the spot, panicked, and hit the gas pedal instead of the brake while the steering wheel was turned. This led to the car whipping around sideways.
