I hate leaders. I’m a straight line guy. I use mono for spinnerbaits and topwater plugs. Fluorocarbon for crankbaits, jerkbaits, and some soft plastics. Braid for heavy flipping jigs, punching, frogs, etc.
Like others have said, most of the water we fish around here is stained up, tannic, or muddy. Unless you’re fishing gin clear water, a leader isn’t necessary.
ETA: Carolina rig is the only exception for me. Then I use 50# braid - barrel swivel - 20# fluorocarbon leader.
