Revit is the Autodesk building design software for what he’s looking to do, but it has a lot steeper learning curve than Sketchup or Chief Architect.
He suggested CAD. Not Map 3D. If you're gonna buy 3D might as well go with Civil and get an application to handle terrains and volumes better. JMO. Either way, overkill in this scenario.
Agreed on the learning curve, which is why I suggested Sketchup. I'm not familiar with Chief Architect or Imagination, I'm sure those may be better suited for what he wants, but not sure their price tags are worth it just for visualization.
