I would like to see the specific data, but it at least appears that there is little correlation between traditional crime of the communities that these mass shootings occur with the shootings themselves.

In other words, these appear to often occur in affluent, lower crime areas so my hypothesis is that the underlying causes of the shootings is unrelated to the underlying causes of crime in general. It's already difficult to determine what those causes are given the low frequency of mass shootings in general, but the this only makes it that much more difficult when it doesn't relate to other, more frequent crimes in general.
