Depends on the level of crime. I can tell you, living on the streets > a medium or maximum security prison. I worked in one for a year, and about the only benefit above being homeless is that they will feed you.

Agree, but the scam they are running does not call for serious crime. They keep it petty, just enough to do a quick stint over the weekend or so. It's almost a rite of passage of sorts.
