In Chicago, I am now wondering how much of this is MS-13 killing each other vs traditional black gangs.
What the hell are the tens of thousands of MS-13 members gonna be doing there (and all over the west and midwest) in the next few years?
If anyone is interested depends on which part of the city you're in:
- Southside tends to be more random, more personal (e.g., social media beef or whatever), and less affiliated with gangs
- Westside tends to be more organized violence because that's where the major heroin trade is now (along the Eisenhower). There are a lot of gangs over there, some African-American, some Mexican, some Puerto Rican, etc.
The Southside is the place with the reputation, but honestly, a lot of it has emptied out Detroit-style, and it's not nearly as bad as it used to be. The Westside has become absurdly violent.
It does look like shootings are way down this year, but that doesn't really surprise me. It's been very cold here, especially compared to last year.
