Yes I think vaccines can be effective, but that has nothing to do with my original comment though.

Generally by activating immune system pathways to inhibit or disrupt replication/transcription/translation of viral particles.

No, I understand that a virus is a virus.... which is why I am aware that viruses are not alive and therefore cannot be killed.

There's a reason why viral illnesses are not treated with antiBIOTICS...
