You may not understand it because you are black but calling a white man a "hippie" is similar to calling a black man the N-word.

The term "hippie" is a pejorative meaning a stupid, lazy and shiftless white person.

One of the reasons white male youths wore their hair long was to show solidarity with people of color who can't change the color of their skin. The only exception to that rule was Michael Jackson because he was rich enough to pay to change the color of his skin.
