Country Club Recommendations in Charlotte?

Any current or former Charlotteans on the Golf Board?
What private clubs would you recommend?
Quail Hollow (ha!), Carmel, Cedarwood and Raintree are the nearest clubs to me.
I’m just wondering if anyone has first-hand experience with any of these or others in CLT.

That's going to be based on budget. Quail, Charlotte Country Club, and Trump National will be the best

Thanks - it seems like Quail, Charlotte CC and Myers Park are ultra-exclusive, know the right people, etc.
I guess the better question is “which is the better value?”. Carmel is obviously much pricier than Cedarwood and Raintree, but I’d love an honest opinion and not a sales pitch from the membership directors.

Hey. I'm a member at Cedarwood. Been there for quite a while.
Ask away.

Quail, MP, and Charlotte are all gonna be at least 75k to join and can be stuffy. Kind of exclusive and influential rosters. I just took a bus trip with 9 guys from MP. Great guys and tons of fun but to hear them talk about some of the silly crap they put up with.
Raintree is ok. 36 holes. Last I knew of they had a fairly high number of Jews, if that matters to you. Have not played there in many years. Not sure about $.
Carmel is probably 50-60 to join. 36 holes. My brother is a member. they have re- worked the courses numerous times in the last 20 years... both are supposed to be nice now.
Cedarwood. Maybe 10 to join. don't know your age but they usually have some deals running. About 500 a month. Course is underrated. Not too tight. Water on maybe 6 holes but is only tough on 2 or 3. Last 5 holes are great. Many feel they are equal to or the best in Charlotte. Just changed grasses in the greens to the new Bermuda that is all the rage. Not too bad to walk. Not pretentious at all in MY view. It is GOLF club.
NOW, ask away.
Tell me when/ if you want to play.

Wow, I didn't know that were this many other TD posters/golfers in Charlotte.
We should all get together and play sometime.

Sounds good to me. Where do you live?

Stonehaven/Cotswold area.
I play alot with a few friends. Pretty much wherever we can get a tee time. Some of the courses I enjoy around town are: Old Sycamore, Ballantyne, Red Bridge, Emerald Lake (which is surprisingly improved quite a bit recently), Eagle Chase.

I'm glad to see this thread got some traction!
I love Olde Syc! Also played a few rounds at Pine Island, Charlotte National and a few others.
I'm headed to Pinehurst in late April, so I'll be looking to get as many practice rounds in as possible.

I'm out Providence Rd. past the Arboretum. 4 miles from Cedarwood. Joined there in 92 I think. We have a great relationship with MP and seem to be able to get some times there pretty readily. I haven't played very many of the public courses that you mentioned. Played Ballantyne a couple of times in charity stuff.

Nice, I am in South Park area, very near to Quail and Carmel. Cedarwood and Raintree are quite close though.

Ha. I grew up in Beverly Woods. Remember when that area was pretty woodsy and 'out' a bit. My brother lives in Montibello.

I really appreciate the thorough response!
A few questions about Cedarwood:
What's the general age distribution of the members?
Are you close to capacity?
I'm looking more for a golf club than a social one, but I do like the vibe of the Men's Grill at Carmel (been there as a guest a few times). Assuming that you've been there with your brother, is there anything like that at Cedarwood?

We've gone through some stages of being a little top-heavy, but the last few years they have offered some deals to young people so there's getting to be more and more young people young couples more kids. I really couldn't tell you what the average age is but it's my impression that is getting younger... But younger to me is late 30s 40s
quote:Nah. And we have a vote coming up at the end of the month to do some remodeling in the clubhouse and if it goes through I'm sure we'll lose some members. That's why I say that it always offering deals. Everything I hear says the votes going to go through.

If I've been in the men's Grill, I can't remember it. It's been awhile since I've been out there with him. We don't have a men's Grill per se but it is definitely a men's dominated Club.

update
The renovation proposal passed at our club...There WILL be some deals offered for membership.
Run into me here or in the o-t and we'll figure something out.

Thanks for the update! I'll reach out and request some more information.
I drove by the club a few nights ago... clubhouse looks great all lit up.

I've played Raintree and Olde Sycamore. Both nice courses, but if you're in the Charlotte Latin vicinty Raintree makes a lot of sense.

I am spending a few days on Charlotte for work in March. Going to try to play Pinehurst 2 but I have to wait until the day before to make a tee time since I’m not staying on the grounds. I have another free day - any recommendations in or around Charlotte?
