I wouldn't buy Bose purely for sound quality, but if you want them for noise cancellation, those and the Sonys are pretty much what everyone will recommend.

I second this, for listening to music in your home there are better headphones available for $300.00, Grado would be one brand that fits this description. But for active noise reduction the Bose headphones are worth it, I won't fly without mine.
