I remember Jackson in the 80s was a pretty cool town. Damned shame what has happened.
And the fact it is 80% black should not be a death sentence. One would hope that regardless of skin color, people want to live in a safe and prosperous community.

Here's a couple other things.
Jackson has a great set of museums. It might be the best set of museums in a Southern city.
Moscow, Paris, Helsinki, Jackson - rotating hosts of the International Ballet Competition. There is a vibrant arts community.
The Happy City movement a couple years ago shows off some of the best of the city.
