shite about half of the population doesn't. And the progressives were mad that they won't be getting a tax cut on the $0 that they pay now

The funniest thing about the American left is their hypocrisy on social benefits and tax policy, mostly based upon total ignorance. They swoon over the benefits that countries like Norway, Sweden and Denmark provide through the government and demand them here. However, if you suggest that those programs be funded in the same way those countries do, they look at you like they swallowed a turd.
You see, all three of those countries generate tax revenues through a virtual flat tax. The highest marginal rate (income + payroll) is not very different than ours in Norway is 39%. In the US, it was 46.3% and is now 39%, it's 56.9% in Sweden and it's 60% in Denmark. Whats drastically different is who pays the top marginal rate. Denmark applies its top rate to income 1.2x the median income (so like 58k), Norway and Sweden apply it to income 1.5 and 1.6x the median income (so $70k-80k). Keep in mind those are only the top rates, income below that is taxed as well, meaning everyone contributes and has a stake in the game. In the US we apply the top marginal rate to income 9x the median income, and half of America is "too poor" to contribute to the federal income tax system. It's strange how in those other places, everyone can manage to contribute, but in the US, the "rich" carry the entire tax burden and the left only wants to turn the screws even more.
Parasites, through and through.
