Very good. A must watch.

Kath was the heart and soul of the band; Cetera had to become the face of the band but he tired of touring (when he left, Chicago had toured for 19 years straight); David Foster is a douche

Watched it last night, loved it. Love those old old Chicago tunes. Being a trumpet player myself its nice to be able to hear rock music with kickass horns.

The doc on Coltrane is pretty damn good also

Watched it last night too, enjoyed it very much. My takeaways were ...
* Kath was a horridly underrated badass and truly irreplaceable; and
* while I appreciate the material and subsequent commercial success they saw during the MTV era, I could not get over my perception of Cetera looking like a male version of "Physical"-era Olivia Newton-John.

Love those old old Chicago tunes
They didn't achieve immediate radio success. While musicians like Joplin and Hendrix recognized their talent, it took crowds hearing their work live before their songs started charting.
Great, great band while Kath was with them. I grew up as a kid listening to early Chicago, and lived the Cetera years of the 80s. I enjoyed them at the time, but there's no question that the Kath-led band was the best Chicago would ever be.

Supposedly their 2nd generation drummer who replaced the original Danny Seraphine a while back has quit. And apparently their recently hired new bassist and lead vocalist quit as well, all in the span of a week. Will be interesting to see if they finally call it quits.

Amazing that their first two albums were DOUBLE albums. NOBODY does that. I still listen to them in the car constantly. My son, who is a jazz musician, marvels at that early music, stating that he had never heard such complex pop music and good musicianship.

First three studio albums and the fourth - recorded at Carnegie Hall - was four records. You can see just how important Kath was - he was all over those albums.

I stand corrected, sir.

Kath was absolutely fantastic. Cetera was no slouch as a bassist, though.

I never thought Kath was very good, but he did give them a bit of an "edge" at one time.
However, the remaining band members come off as very jealous of Cetera.
...and I agree, David Foster is a sperm stain.

Chicago is touring, yet again, in 2018. They have a slate of shows at the Venetian early before the tour begins.
They are playing the entire Chicago II (or just simply "Chicago") album and then filling out the rest of the 30 or so song set with hits.
Chicago was my Dad's (RIP) favorite band and I sort of liked them growing up, but the only songs they play on the radio (other than 25 or 6 to 4) are their "ballads", which make them sound like a bunch of pussy-whipped cucks. After I watched the Chicago documentary when it aired on tv, I went back and really started appreciating early Terry Kath-led Chicago and they are now one of my favorites as well. I stand corrected on my younger self's opinion.
