I simply can’t understand why the state refuses to address our dependency on oil and the market fluctuation. Alabama and Tennessee are now booming because of their introduction into the auto industry. We’re also significantly behind the power curve in Tech - another market Louisiana refuses to get in on.
Louisiana is in prime location to become an economic powerhouse, but it’s my belief that the oil companies in Houston want the state and its people dependent on oil, so they can continue to control the market.
As employers, oil companies (headquartered in Houston not Louisiana) will never have to worry about payroll to employees if they always control the state’s workforce via lack of other employment opportunities...
This way they can dish out that $16 an hour to the GED roustabout, and convince them that they live in the lap of luxury in a trailer that cost the same as their Silverado or F-250. Grease the politicians on the side to keep things the way they are.
They know they’d be up shite’s creek if all of a sudden all the baws they take advantage of were working in factories, logistical operations, or God-forbid got educated enough to perform above the standard “push this button at this time”.
Control the state economy=Control the workforce

They may be operating more lean than they were 5 years ago but I wouldn't say they are getting hammered.
You have companies like Acadian ambulance, Schumacher Group, Lemoine Company, Stuller, etc that are operating fine and employ thousands. Acadian is one of the best ambulance services in the country and has diversified into lots of other services
