Anyone familiar with Joyce WMA? Wanting to do some scouting at the end of the season and become familiar with the area for next year. I have never hunted in the swamp before and wanted see beginner tips for this area. I have read some of the older threads and Maurepas and Joyce but want as much information before heading out as possible.

This was posted recently, not sure if you saw it already. The consensus is that hunting Joyce is pretty brutal, especially if you're not familiar with swamp hunting, but there are a few deer out there.
Do your scouting in early spring as it gets really thick in summertime. I recommend a good gps as killing big deer out there will require long paddles or long walks or both. Learn to judge what marsh is good to walk on and what's not or you will end up with a wet arse. This usually happens to me at least once a year. Your best bet to finding deer is to find dry ground. It's pretty rare out there but the deer know where it is.

everytime yall start posting about Maurepas & Joyce, I lose an hour at work on Google Earth!
I really want to go scout it once rifle season is over in February, before heat n skeeters get brutal. maybe bag a couple of "swamp chickens". For sure fishing it in my kayak this spring.
