This is a perfect example of why Louisiana is a shite show and will take a damn revolution to fix. Anyone with a college education that's not Engineering leaves the state (and still half of them do).

There are absolutely bare minimum white collar jobs here. The entire state revolves around personal injury attorneys, engineers, and offshore/plant baws. Sprinkle in some service workers and there you go. That encompasses a good 70% of the state's employees. Why can't we get our shite together like other states? This back woods, redneck, religious bullshite is what holds us back despite our resources. We have oil but it's down at the moment, and the state refuses to diversify our economy. Why not try to attract some out-of-state businesses like Tennessee, Texas, and Mississippi are doing? Why not look into developing tech like Ohio and Michigan are diversifying into now that manufacturing went to shite a while ago? We have one of the lowest high school graduation rates in the country because there's absolutely no emphasis on education. Every rural baw gets told by mom and dad that he can quit school and make 100k as a roustabout.

Our schools are dog shite, crime is out of control, and pumps to empty out the bowl that is New Orleans don't work; yet our main concern is taking down racist statues and pandering to people for a fricking vote. I grew up here and wish I could be proud of my state, but I just can't for so so many reasons just like this. End rant.

Another........is that half the teachers in the parish don't favor Jerome as a superintendent, because he has no actual classroom experience.

His bio says he was a special education teacher for 15 years.

Or if the school district is struggling so much that it can't afford raises that money could be put into the operation of the school. Most teachers spend their own personal money to buy supplies for their classes. Mr Superintendent should be able to afford to make some sacrifices in apparently rough times.

Shoot. 38k could employ a whole other teacher or teacher's aid and actually do something about those increasing class sizes.

I agree. I don't know the school boards financials. If the school board slashed the budget, when money being brought in was increasing. That's fricked. If it also gave out a raise to the Supt, that's even more fricked up.

There have been people who have said there are A+ schools in VP. I don't think you get that rating by letting your schools be run into the ground.

It's not true and there are a lot of what you would call "good jobs" to be had outside of the service and oil sectors.

The Superintendent took a 40K raise and a car. Lol. And the dude was already making 100K.

What do you think is a fair salary for the head of probably one of the largest employers of that parish?

The board was split in renewing his contract, and I think it was Fontana who voted to break the tie and renew.

The board was locked at a 4/4 vote. Since the passing of Mr. Luddy Herpin, the Board voted 4/3 to appoint Luddy's replacement. This was the 5th yes vote needed for the contract extension raise.

I'd think medical would outnumber all of those here in Lafayette

That depends. There are alot of factors I don't know. What is an average salary of comparable Supervisors? What has he done to earn that raise?

I do think that if that teacher was right and their class sizes have grown by 30% while salaries, number of teachers, and supplies have stayed the same, then the extra 40/50K a year should he spent on supplies and improvements for the students not just a raise for the Superintendent.

Also, the council instructing the bailiff to cuff and remove someone who is being calm and polite and directly addressing a voting issue, and is being directly addressed by a member of that council is ridiculous

I would say Lafayette is the hub for oil in LA. The largest industry in Lafayette is healthcare.

Because everyone is fat and incredibly unhealthy.

It actually plays to my point that people in Louisiana are generally lazy... Which is why nothing changes. Wanna know how I know you've never lived anywhere else?
