Because OG Rocky is a love story.

Well, I agree that Rocky II is more about love than anything else.

But, Rocky and Rocky IV are about the struggle of life - working towards a goal, win or lose, and doing all the hard things it takes to get you there.

To a degree, Rocky Balboa returned to these themes, with some of the best moments of the series.

Rocky III and V (the odd numbered curse - at least after the original) were bad movies - III the good kind of bad and V the bad kind of bad (cringeworthy) and, in the end, they are essentially boxing movies.

But, Rocky, II, IV and "VI" (RB) are films using boxing to speak about life. Rocky and Rocky IV are arguably 2 of the greatest sports films of all time - and probably the greatest sports films not directly based on real life events, IMHO.

Ivan Drago has to be one of the most intimidating villains ever. I mean did you see how impressive his numbers on the Russian punch machine were?

Its weird that someone would bring up Meredith and then poop on V. The flashback is one of the greatest moments of the series. Even the last fight where Micky tells him to get his arse up and that he loves him gave me chills. Movie could have been better no doubt.

Role I loved Meredith in was grumpy old men. He had me rolling every time he was on the screen..

I agree. But not about Rocky IV.

The reason we love Rocky IV is it's such a product of it's time so it takes us back. Rocky IV is Commando in boxing shorts. Who doesn't love the movie? Nobody. But it's not cinema like the 70's and original Rocky.

What I love about Rocky is he loses because you know that would never happen today in movies.

The movie wasn't about him winning in some Cinderella story.

The movie was much deeper.

Rocky III was basically Karate Kid Rocky...Besties, training, unbelievable kick-arse foe...everyone doubts you. I have no doubt, Karate Kid totally copied this film.
