This isn’t a difficult topic.
It's really not. Don't know why you're making it out to be more difficult than it is. Usually, teams don't need to create 11 roster spots to fit their entire signing class.
You named three guys who could actually contribute this year. Lanard is probably going to start the year seeing a lot of time. Campbell can provide depth on both lines and Lewis is at a minimum a starter on special teams, and will provide depth at a thin safety position.
Why process guys who could actually contribute this year over guys who likely still need another couple of years to develop?
I just really don't understand all of your consternation over the staff churning the bottom of the roster. I guess you'd rather keep those guys so they could develop into future Campbells, Lewises and Lanards? Why is it a bad thing to cut bait early and turn over the bottom of the depth chart when the roster situation warrants it?

Because that’s how recruiting works? You develop guys, and if a guy like a Cameron Lewis never amounts to anything other than “career backup” then that’s when you process them, with the hopes that your freshmen have a higher ceiling.
It means that these freshmen were really really bad if the coaches would rather bail on them so quickly.
When the 2018 class becomes seniors (whoever is still left) we will see the effects of this class truly manifested.
