this is true;

and the following is also true:

bad assistants don't move up the ladder, good ones do.
(except of course O , but he has his own selling points, rah rah recruiter extraordinaire, so they say).

You don't know what you have until you have him.
And we happen to have Aranda right now, so there is probably some idea of how good he might be.

correct, but you greatly reduce the risk if you hire a proven commodity, whether it's as head coach or any other job. You don't wait until he's here, with a big contract, to find out he's the wrong guy. Especially for head coach, which is critically important. I don't mind taking a flyer on a position coach once in awhile, but not for head coach or coordinator.

This concept is common sense - I don't know why it's getting such push back.
