I get my suits at Dillard's outlet store in Kenner. From my experience it doesn't matter how much you spend on a suit, but getting it tailored to fit you is the biggest factor on how good it looks
I agree. Unless you are a 1 percenter, in which case you would have enough money to pay for bespoke suits, the fit is going to be the most important thing. Here's a good guide to how a suit should fit: LINK.
Most of these things can be taken care of by a tailor. The main things you need to worry about are length of the suit, the shoulders, and the armholes (armpit area). These are things that really can't be changed by a tailor. Suit stores usually have someone who knows what they're doing and will help you pick out something that fits lengthwise and shoulder wise. But I've noticed they pay little attention to the armholes. So make sure you find something that fits there.
Also, depending on the store, some suit stores only take length of the sleeve but don't take the jacket in any. If they aren't going to take the jacket in any, either ask them or just take the suit as is to a tailor well they'll do both. No reason to leave the suit at the store for a week while they only take in the sleeves and then have to take it to a tailor for the sides.
