I've been re-watching the original Transformers with my 5 year old, and that show is legit. Yes it's still a kids show and suffers from the 80's animation issues that plagued most cartoons, but the voice acting, sound design, and story telling are all top notch.
It's also made me appreciate how the 1986 movie absolutely devastated the original Autobot lineup. So many bots that played a huge part in the first two seasons are just wiped out in a matter of seconds.

That movie was amazing. I remember seeing it at the theater with my dad, and I was in awe of the violence. Optimus was fricking beaten to death! A robot that ate planets?! I had no idea the movie would have all this. The movie was far darker and grittier than the afternoon show. The soundtrack is amazingly dated but the movie is still awesome.
