Parts of the state are beautiful but the quality of life is pretty comparable to LA. Like I said a few posts up, my wife is from Hoover and most of her family lives in the Birmingham area. I'm there 5-6 times per year for the past 15 years. There are more well developed suburbs than BR but most of the city is run down and dangerous.
Her parents retired to Huntsville about 7 years ago which is a nice city.

I did ammo school up in Huntsville. It’s a very nice and underrated town. I’m not sure what their culcha’rul demographics are but it seems nice.
