SA has sold itself out for the west. Many mooselimbs dont particularly care for SA. Iranians on the other hand could rally much of the middle east with their independence from western influence. SA poses a much bigger economical threat, yes, but Iran could unite the ME/Russia/Paki/China against just about anyone.

Iran is a regional threat. Saudi and the money they pump around the world for Wahhabism is a full on Trojan horse to establish a Muslim world.
