$70k. Chicago Unions fricking the taxpayers. I was at the Chicago Convention Center for a conference. Came in with a piece of rolling luggage to set up my booth. Union guys said it was “cargo” and they had to take it into the Convention Center. My client said to let them do it. They put it on a pallet, one little piece of luggage, and used a forklift to drive it to the booth. Charged my client $275 for the effort.
Kicker was that they wanted me to take it off the pallet at the booth. I refused so they called a Supervisor over who radioed for a Stevedore (fork lift guy wasn’t authorized to move it by hand) to come over and lift it off the pallet. It was like the Sopranos or some shite. This was all before the fiasco with the electric cable plug box being under the carpet. That required two or three trades, I can’t remember, to lift the carpet up and get the box out.
