You also said they used anesthesia to clean his ears. Is the dog aggressive? If so, maybe they are just quoting you outrageous prices because they just want you to go away?

Persistent ear infection. They said they had to put her under to deal with it. $500. Twice.

I decided to connect with breeders to find alternative solutions that cost next to nothing and worked.

ETA. I’ve never known her to be aggressive toward people. But she is blind and anxious.

I had this exact thing happen with another dog, and he mangled a guy’s hand when he got scared.

So to all you we-get-to-decide vets: Can I turn to you if she bites someone?

When they offered you a cleaning solution with antibiotics to treat the dog yourself, did you refuse them or just not do what you were supposed to?

Or, the vet said the only way to cure the ear infection was surgery, and then a breeder on facebook told you to just pour cedar oil in his ear and it worked?

None of this makes any sense.

Yes, we treated her with ointments, solutions, and pills, all prescribed. Did not work.

Two procedures. Did not work.

You blaming the victim, bruh.

What did the breeder recommend that finally worked?

St John's Wort and licorice?

Change in diet. Cleared it right up.

So, was it actually an infection or just an allergic reaction making the ears itch?

What was the dietary change?

Seems like the judge knows his shite. Have to commend y’all on trying so hard though. It’s interesting why you feel like you have a dog in this fight. This guy being a shitty vet is only a good thing for your wife’s business

Hypoallergenic food. Hill’s z/d. Used to use one that had Blue in the name too. Can’t remember exactly what it was called.

Vets said infection. Steroids and antibiotics. Procedures. Nada.

Diet change. She’s fine.

Any more questions, Thomas?

I'm still not convinced his story is valid.

Nobody, nobody, charges $200 for a basic exam. Nobody. Not even in San Francisco or Manhattan.

Unless this is some weird circumstance where they are the only vet within a 50 mile radius, or some other really odd situation, that vet cannot stay in business with that fee.

It's like opening a pizza place and charging $65 for a pizza... no extra toppings included.

Plenty of red flags here.

The dog had an allergy and you switched his food, it's not magic.

However, the fact steroids did nothing also makes your story suspect. Steroids absolutely would clear up an allergy. I'm guessing the steroids worked at least temporarily, or you didn't make sure you dog ate them... they taste terrible.

Eh. While cost had a small play in the move from mass shooting to gas chambers, it had much more to do with time and the men doing all the shooting were starting to have mental breakdowns

So sorry you’re going through this. I just had to put mine down.
Go to another vet.

It did not fix the problem, which was persistent and in her ear.

Yeah. After about 1500 bucks I figured out it was an allergy when the vet tried to put her under a third time and I went looking for answers.

Following as we will likely have to do this as well in the coming months. Our old boy is getting aggressive. Can't see or hear well and is confused a lot of the time. I can't imagine being told we had to jump through hoops after already having to make a tough decision.

Judge, you might have said it, but where are you? There is a vet on the NS that will come to the house for this service so he can be at home with us when it's time. I didn't realize this existed but apparently it's not uncommon.

Thanks. Don’t live on the Northshore, but I’ve got one lined up. Good luck to you.

I would be pissy. It's one thing if you have a young dog and your vet never saw anything wrong, but obviously 15 years, paralyzed, and having bowel issues is a quality of life kinda thing. Every time we have made the decision (too many damn times, Goldens are great but just attract cancer like crazy) the vet didn't even question our decision.
