My new bride and I are heading to Cabo the day after Christmas. It’s a first for both of us, and I’ve read the threads here and think we have a nice time planned. We don’t want to do much, mainly stay by the pool, drink, and make sexy time. We are staying at Grand Solmar Lands End, based on the reviews here and from some friends who own there. We used Tony Baja for our airport transportation and we have a sunset dinner reserved at Mona Lisa. We will go to the marina one day just to do it, maybe have lunch and the boat ride out to the arch. I wouldn’t mind taking a whale watching tour, but I guess we will have to wait till we get there to see if the whales have been moving.

Any last minute recs/advice is appreciated!

Lots of good restaurants.

Los tres Gallos - excellent Mexican restaurant. Yes it’s on that street in that neighborhood. Just go.

La Dolce - Italian. Ridiculous lasagne and everything else was stellar as well.

Savatore’s - another great Italian restaurant.

Flora Farms - Good lunch or dinner spot. Would be cool to checkout the farm/property during the day. We ran into Rob Lowe there and forced him to take a picture with us.

Ediths- Nice dinner

We stopped at Cabo Wabo and the Giggling Marlin. That's all I have to offer.

::::: TRANSPORTATION :::::

We called Tony Baja tours for our airport/resort transfers. We paid $150 total and we were picked up in a private and hew Tahoe, they even stopped by Wal-Mart for 45 minutes for us. When you arrive at the airport, WALK STRAIGHT OUTSIDE or else you will be hounded by timeshare sharks.

...and the best part about Wal-Mart is that we had Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez help with our groceries. My kids went nuts when he came up and we have some awesome pics with him, the kid looked just like him. Here is one without my kiddos.

::::::: EATS :::::::

We didn't venture out as much as we usually do since it was just us the kiddos this time, we baked in the sun all day we were all usually asleep by 9:00pm.

The Office - solid place for breakfast that we hit up a few times. They have a water taxi to the Arc and Lovers Beach for $5 if you show your food receipt to the boat captain. TIP - don't sit in the tables near the beach unless you want to get haggled by vendors for fake Oakleys, silver jewelry, and straw sombreros.

Lover's Beach

Seal Rock by the arches

The famous arch (AKA "Los Cabos") - can you see the Dragon drinking from the sea? I thought that was pretty cool.

La Esquina - modern Mexican food that's part of the Hacienda Hotel (I think). Food was awesome and the service was great. We ordered the seafood soup, lobster tails, and the filet.

La Palapa - regular spot that had average food...so average that I forgot to take pics.

Tacos 101 - pretty tasty and fast. We had 10 tacos for $12 and all the fixings we wanted. Would go back to this place despite Tacos Guss being our favorite....which is just a stone's throw from this place.

Other pics of bars during the day vs at night. We went out 1 night and just couldn't hang...so sad.

::::::: SLEEP :::::::

We always stay at Grand Solmar Land's End, it is the southernmost resort in Cabo and you can walk over to Lover's Beach when the tide is low. It is a VERY chill place and has now completed their last additions to the resort which they began over 5 years ago (from the ground up).

Checkin lobby

This area used to be their "VIP" check-in but they have since converted it to their sushi bar. The food was pretty good although the menu is not super extensive so don't expect the same quality of sushi as Matsuhisa in Aspen, CO. Their ceviche is fricking outstanding and is about as fresh as it comes...daily out of Pacific.

Here are some pics or our room, it was a 3 bedroom 3 bath just across from the sushi bar area. Perfect location overlooking the 2 main pools.

Other than our patio, this was our favorite perch for morning coffee. The wind was always blowing gently through here.

Pics of Pools and Main Ground of the resort...

They have a breakfast shop that offers everything from STONG arse coffee to Lox salmon bagels and big donuts.

Onsite grocery store has everything you could need and then some. And it's really not that much more than buying things in town.

Onsite Sports Bar which stayed busy from 7pm on....this was right before they closed.

Open grill for their menu or if you bring fish from your charter they will cook it for you.

Most of these tables have gas-fed fire in crushed glass and at night are 100% full of people and live music.

Through these windows is the gym, right below the "fire pit tables".

They have these "flash mob" style entertainment that disappear just as quickly as they arrive. Great entertainment that doesn't loiter after they are done asking for tips.

The resort faces the pacific, and they strongly discourage swimming in the water as you can see here. In fact, you may have read about a couple last year that was swept into the water while walking on the beach and the wife drowned...ya, that was right here.

If you are up to climbing, there is a large hill (what I call a mountain) directly behind the resort that offers a steep and direct ascent. My 11 year old son and I did it the last day....took about an hour to get up and 90 minutes to get down. Here are some pics:

Here are some different things the hotel haps, maps, etc. Their kids club is awesome, we used it last year when our younger son was 7 and he loved it, asked to go back the next day.

First things first....when you get into the airport, you will be hustled by timeshare people that offer you all this free shite for a 2 hour presentation. My advice would be to walk walk right outside to the taxi area, grab yourself some beers at the outside bar and head straight to your hotel.

Taxis in town are VERY reasonable and are each about the same price. ALWAYS establish your price BEFORE you get inside.

As far as bars, you will find that Cabo is very small and all the bars are pretty much in one spot. We are not into the club scene, so I can only suggest bars we have been to.

Rip’s Bar sits right outside the back-entrance (exit) of Cabo Wabo, next to Jungle Bar. Awesome outdoor bar where everyone comes to chat and meet new friends.

Happy Ending Cantina is owned by a retired San Antonio firefighter; chill place with awesome bartenders and beer pong tables in the back.

Mandala is the new club, which can be fun for all ages. We went and had a few drinks just to people watch. Go up the roof to relax (pic shown in that link), the bottom floor is club

The other usual suspects are Cabo Wabo, Giggling Marlin and El Squid Roe …… all very touristy but always packed. Probably worth checking out just to say you’ve been! Mango Deck (below) is fun during the day to see contests and a live DJ/MC entertain the crowds, but this is where Medano Beach is and the peddlers I mention in my review

We always stay at Grand Solmar Land's End....read the reviews, they speak for themselves. It's on the Pacific side and you can't swim in the ocean, but I will tell you it's a DAMN GOOD trade-off from Medano Beach where walkaround vendors relentlessly peddle fake Oakleys, fedoras and any club drug you can imagine. You can walk to the "famous" arches (aka los cabos) and lover's beach at low tide, which we have done several times. Pics below. We have not been deep sea fishing so can't offer much advice there but we've heard it's amazing. There are Dune Buggy adventures, zip lines, deep sea fishing, top notch golf. Cabo is awesome...hope you guys have fun

For dining, there are some good recs from earlier posts. Hacienda Cocina y Cantina is an awesome spot that you can't afford to miss. Edith's and Mi Casa are also cool places that offer up a nice menu and tableside "Mexican Coffee" which is made with flaming tequila. One of our favorite spots is Los Barriles - pics of their special plate below.

Hacienda Cocina y Cantina

Edith's

Tacos Guss – quite possibly the best tacos anywhere. Super cheap, super fresh and they being you a huge caddy of toppings. Don’t miss this place! Cash only.

Tres Gallos has an awesome patio and kick arse food...and STRONG drinks.

Javier's for a nice, elegant dinner and excellent service.

Sunset de Mona Lisa is a short drive out of town, but the food is average as best. The view is the best in Cabo however so it may be worth checking out if you can tolerate a moderate meal for not cheap.

El Farallon is our favorite spot in Cabo...food is awesome and $$$$ but worth every peso!

Maro's Shrimp House

Los Barriles has tablside dishes from Ceasar salad, to lobster to Mexican coffee

Hacienda Cocina y Cantina

If you are willing to put up with the vendors, then hit up The Office for breakfast and other meals....awesome stuff. The Mango Deck is next door and plays host to daytime shenanigans with an MC hosting various contests that aren't as cheesy as the shite you'd see in Cancun spring break.

The Office has their own glass bottom boat to take you over to see the arch up close and to Pelican Rock (and all the fish below you), it is only $5 per person if you eat there and show your receipt to the boat captain.

Mango Deck

Lorenzillo's overlooks the marina and has good lobster dishes although it is admittedly overpriced.

Nik San actually has some damn good sushi

Alexander Restaurant has some delicious authentic Mexican food (not tex-mex) that we always hit up. It is located on the Marina as well and is a great spot to people watch.

The Cabo Rey Sunset Cruise is touristy, but the food + show is awesome. Strongly recommend you do this if it's your first time here. You will NOT be disappointed.

Snorkeling is not the best, so just set your expectations if you elect to book a snorkel trip.

Last but not least, the sunrises and sunsets are some of the best you will see on the planet. Here is a photo we took that is NOT shopped.
