I'm not really sure about the potential environmental impact of this facility. But it's infinitely hilarious that it could be underway so quickly. Meanwhile, I remember going to a meeting about freshwater diversions for Maurepas swamp back around '02. We were told the diversions could be in operation as soon as 2012. They haven't even finished researching models yet, much less started any actual construction. Why do beneficial projects take years of research and this one could be hurried along into action?

Government project vs private company.
Government projects take years so politicians can take credit over long timeframes and payoffs with all the studies with tax dollars
Private companies ain’t got time or money for all that crap. Payoff quick, politicians get credit for jobs before next election.

Funny this was brought up in this thread...
My thought process is:
We are promoting freshwater diversion projects from the Mississippi River into the Maurepas Swamp and into the coastal marsh. The Mississippi River is lined with much larger and worse facilities than the one being proposed here. Is there any concern with the chemicals along that river ending up in the swamp?
But everyone is bent out of shape over this one small facility in Manchac.
Feel free to call me an idiot and explain to me why the two scenarios don't compare, i'm always down to be educated on something. But as of now, I'm having trouble seeing the big issue with his facility being built. It just sounds like a bunch of people being paranoid over something small to me, but I haven't done much reading on this other than a few news articles and forum posts.
