The fine is not the key.

How are stupid weekends in jail any different than taking the guys license away for 5 years?

1. His license is suspended for 5 years. Therefore, it is illegal for him to hunt. Ie, no need for the look at me "weekend jail time" sentence. If he gets caught hunting with a suspended license he will be sentenced to further penalties, etc.

2. If the judge deemed the suspended license was not enough then, sentence the man to a prison term as well. But make it an actual term, not a look at me weekends only over 5 years term.

Any way you slice this up, the judge is a dip shite "look at me" trying to generate some headline instead of actually trying to deter this moron from illegal hunting activities.

If the guy has already shown he doesn't care about the rules, he won't mind hunting without a license. By putting him in jail, at least the judge can make sure he's not hunting on the weekends, legally or illegally.

Plus, maybe it acts as a determent for future poachers, instead of a $100 fine.

Ruined a lot of weekends for this guy for 5 years for illegally killing a fricking deer? That's pretty fricking stupid unless he has prior's. I wonder what his sentence would have been if he shot a doe instead of that monster.

You think taking away his license will keep him from hunting? No way you're that naive.
