That's not what I asked. You think this is the only way to get support? Is it even the only conceivable way to administer warranty support?
If business models like Tesla's can't work and would fail anyway, why is it that auto dealership associations like in LA successfully prevent Tesla and similar business models from being legal at the state level?

These two points have nothing to do with each other. The viability of Teslas model has nothing to do with why the LA Auto Dealer Association lobbied to keep Tesla out. And the auto dealers decision to do so, while obviously self serving, is not inherently a negative for consumers. Look, the self driving car will probably put many dealers and manufacturers out if business in the next 10-20 years anyway. I wouldnt stress too much about it.
