I never could get the great love for the Cowboys with people driving around town with Cowboys window flags all season long.
because most of their games are on TV in Memphis.

it damn sure ain't the Titans. Memphis folk, in general, hate Nashville and anything to do with it. they probably root for whatever team is playing the Titans.
this could not be more accurate. Memphis folks generally hate Nashville.

I would say the Cowboys are the most popular team. Titans definitely play second fiddle (if not third to the steelers/niners fans).

After their bid was not accepted, I saw a t-shirt on Beale Street of a dog pissing on a fire hydrant with the NFL logo on it. Proposed name was Memphis Hound Dogs.

To answer the OP, I have been an Indianapolis fan here since before the Oilers left Houston.

Nashville sold out their culture, Memphis has not. Nashville wants to be the new Atlanta. Memphis wants to be a better Memphis.
"Sell out" is Nashville's culture, no? Just think of the music they've been putting out the past 30 or so years.
I swear, the folks sitting down in Chattanooga are laughing at us all with their little slice of paradise.

quote:Yeah even with the proximity to Dallas and the Jerry Jones ties, the Cardinals are still the most popular professional sports franchise in Arkansas. It seems to have declined a bit over the years with baseball in general but I grew up a big Cardinals fan and most of my friends were too. I had heard it had something to do with the games coming on the radio back in the day.
That's not exactly true. A lot of Cardinals fans were in Memphis before the Redbirds got there. Long before all the tv broadcasts people grew up listening to Jack Buck on the radio. There are also a good bit of Cubs and Braves fans in Memphis.

Mostly Titans
Honestly it's probably
1. Titans
2. Saints/Cowboys
Why Cowboys you ask? Well....

The reason they like the Cardinals is because we have the triple A team, no one gives a shite about the actual city of St Louis This post was edited on 12/21 at 5:05 pm
For the record the triple A team was moved Ron memphis BECAUSE of the strong Cardinals precense not the other way around
As far as MLB ppl are either Cardinals or Braves but it's more Cardinals

I saw more Cowboy fans last year when I lived there than any other team. Most locals hated the Titans because of them skipping town.
I lived in memphis for over 20 years and am still fairly close now and not once have I heard someone bitch about the Titans not staying

If Memphis were able to keep the Titans, would they be able to support them? From what I can tell, Nashville really doesn't get behind them that well (ranked 19th in attendance for an 8-6 team).

I see Cardinals stuff all over Memphis
Posted on 12/23/17 at 10:47 am to Kid Charlemagne
For me I'm a Titans fans but not from the Memphis area originally moved here in 2006 from Middle TN.

I grew up in East Arkansas right outside of Memphis, and most everyone there is a Cowboys fan. This was in the 90s when 70% of America was on the Cowboys bandwagon, so take it FWIW. Even when the Titans played in Memphis, most everyone went to see their team as opposed to the Titans. Memphis isn’t much of an NFL city.
As for baseball, it’s the Cardinals because of the Redbirds and proximity to STL.

The Pyramid looks so badass on TV. I want to visit it someday. I wish the Grizzlies still played there.

I didn’t know that. I guess it couldn’t be fixed, hence the new arena? Didn’t the SEC tournament move there one year?
Posted on 12/25/17 at 12:07 am to Paul Allen
The fact that the Tennessee Oilers name was even a thing makes me want to fight someone IRL

The new arena was built to fit NBA requirements as far as amenities. The pyramid was built for the Memphis Tigers in the early 90s and just used for a couple years by the Grizzlies. Yeah the SEC tournament was at the pyramid at least once
